Men’s Soccer Ignites Before and After Halftime, Securing Season's First Victory
Utica University’s men’s soccer team secured their first win of the season with a decisive 3-1 victory over SUNY Delhi. After trailing initially, Utica rallied to tie the game just before halftime and then dominated the second half, scoring two quick goals. Pioneers Lose to Saints in Final Match of North Country Invitational
In a disappointing finish at the North Country Invitational Tournament, the Utica Pioneers fell to St. Lawrence Saints 5-0, suffering an early setback in their 2025 campaign. Despite an energetic first half and seven shots, the Pioneers couldn’t find the net, with standout Mia Benincasa narrowly missing multiple scoring chances. However, rookie goaltender Sophia Weiss shone defensively, racking up six saves in the second half. The Pioneers will look to regroup before their next match against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on September 13th. -
International Overdose Awareness Memorial at Utica Memorial Parkway
ACR Health has planted hundreds of flags along the Utica Memorial Parkway to honor lives affected by overdoses in Oneida County. This display includes 355 purple flags representing lives lost to overdoses since 2019 and 2,000 white flags symbolizing those who survived. The initiative coincides with International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31. Several city landmarks will be illuminated in purple throughout the weekend, and the flags will remain on display until September 2 to raise awareness and commemorate those impacted by substance use. -
Pioneers Lose 4-1 to Oneonta in Season Opener
CANTON, NY – In a spirited start to their 25th season, the Utica University field hockey team fought hard but fell to Oneonta, 4-1, in the North Country Invitational. Despite struggling early, the Pioneers rallied in the final period, outshooting their rivals 5-1 and scoring their first goal of the season by Samantha Young, assisted by Mia Benincasa. Strong performances from defenders Keeley Savona and Kassidy Gloude helped limit Oneonta’s scoring in the second half.
