Illinois Man Faces Court Over Utica Death Charges
Darius Steward, 32, faced Oneida County Court on Monday for allegedly murdering Omar Mitchell, 33, in Utica on April 22. Mitchell was fatally shot on Walker Street and later died in the hospital. Steward was arrested in Illinois in June and extradited to Utica. He declined a plea deal from prosecutors, which would have resulted in a 20-year sentence for the murder charge.
