$500K Grant Fuels Utica Research on Monitoring Transplant Health in Wounded Veterans
The Department of Defense has awarded a $500,000 grant to Masonic Medical Research Institute, led by associate professor Jason R. McCarthy, to advance research on vascularized composite allografts (VCA). This project aims to enhance methods for monitoring graft health, enabling doctors to swiftly detect rejection and adjust immunosuppression for military personnel who have suffered severe injuries. VCAs, which include skin, muscle, bones, and nerves, are crucial for these individuals’ recovery, addressing a significant medical need.
