Third Bat in Utica Area Tests Positive for Rabies
A third bat in two weeks in the Utica area has tested positive for rabies, as confirmed by the Oneida County Department of Health on August 26. The latest bat, found in South Utica, is the second positive case there this week, following another in New Hartford on August 15. Two people and one cat were exposed; the individuals received post-exposure treatment, while the cat was vaccinated. Residents are advised to watch for signs of rabies, including unusual behavior or excessive drooling, and to avoid contact with wild animals.
