Utica Council Votes to Abolish Chief Fire Marshal Role
The Utica Common Council voted 6-3 to abolish the chief fire marshal position in the Utica Fire Department, a role vacant since January due to retirement. Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll explained that this change will allow for the creation of a second fire marshal position, resulting in two fire marshals operating under the assistant fire chief’s oversight. Historically, the division had been limited to one chief fire marshal supervising another, which hampered efficiency in inspections and operations since the early 2000s.
